Safety Advisor services: The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 under the ‘General Duties of the Employer states that each employer should obtain, where necessary, the services of a competent person (whether under a contract of employment or otherwise) for the purpose of ensuring, so far as is reason- ably practicable, the safety, health and welfare at work of his or her employees.
SOS can provide safety officer/advisor services to all industry needs.
Safety Auditing: We can provide comprehensive auditing of your premises, work operations, management systems, identifying areas for improvement and provide comprehensive reports on completion.
Safety Statement development and review: We will NOT develop generic safety statements, SOS will only develop bespoke company specific/site specific safety statements. The main basis for the above is to comply with Section 19 & 20 of The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 in the provision of ‘identification the hazards in the place of work’.
Also, refer to pg. 28 of the ‘Guide to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 ‘Safety statements must be specific to the place of work
We can also review and advise on existing safety statements and make recommendations for improvement.
Risk Assessments development and review: We can develop bespoke risk assessments specific to a task/operation/work activity, place of work. We can also review and advise on existing risk assessments and suitability of same. Risk Assessment of Chemicals: Chemicals can be used modestly or extensively in various industry. While many chemicals in use are of low concern, some chemicals may be harmful to human health if not managed appropriately. SOS has over 5 years of experience of working in IPPC licenced facilities and can help in the completion of comprehensive chemical risk assessments of chemicals which includes an ‘eight’ stage process to determine potential severity of chemical use in the event of an incident/accident.
PSCS Services: Including HSA notifications, construction stage health and safety plan development and review, site induction development, client liaison, permitting systems, safety advisory services.
Traffic Management plans: ‘Keep pedestrians and vehicles apart’. Construction transport accidents result from the inadequate separation of pedestrians and vehicles, this can usually be avoided by careful planning. SOS can work with our clients to develop ‘site specific traffic management plans’ so as to reduce the risks associated with construction plant and pedestrian interface.
Waste Management Plans: SOS can work with our clients to develop ‘site specific waste management plans’ with a view to;
Minimise the environmental impact from waste created during the construction operation
Ensure compliance with environmental waste legislation
Provide a system of continuous improvement waste management performance
Provide a means to achieve and comply with the organisation’s environmental policy.
Accident/Dangerous Occurrence/Incident investigation services: Accidents and Dangerous Occurrence and incidents are investigated for very good reasons these include:
On humanitarian basis – no one likes to see people injured or killed.
The accident/dangerous occurrence/incident may have resulted from a breach of legislation by the organisation.
The injury/dangerous occurrence may be reportable to the HSA under current legislation.
Accidents/dangerous occurrences/incidents may result in lost production
Serious accidents/dangerous occurrences/incidents can have detrimental effect on the morale of the workplace.
Equipment may need repair or replacement as a result of an accident/dangerous occurrences/incident
The need for remedial action in order to prevent a recurrence of the accident/dangerous occurrence/incident – ‘lessons learnt.
SOS can work with our clients and undertake comprehensive accident/dangerous occurrence/incident investigations and provide detailed reports on completion.
Toolbox talk delivery and provision: A toolbox talk is a short safety and/or environmental talk, normally delivered at the workplace (not a training room) on a specific subject matter. It should be short (5 – 10 minutes) and to the point with a specific safety and/or environmental message.
The objective of toolbox talks is to raise awareness of a particular aspect of the work by using a direct method of communication and exchange of information between management, supervision and the employees with the purpose of improving safety and and/or environmental awareness by directly involving all employees in issues that are important to them. Toolbox talks can also help in finding solutions to problems, as well as building a committed and a productive team.
SOS can develop bespoke ‘toolbox talks’ specific to a particular subject area or industry.
Method Statement creation: A work method statement, sometimes called aRAMS’, is a document that details the way a work task or process is to be completed. The method statement should outline the hazards involved and include a step by step guide on how to do the job safely. The method statement must also detail which control measures have been introduced to ensure the safety of anyone who is affected by the task or process.
SOS can work with our clients and will only develop bespoke, ‘task specific’ method statements (RAMS) including specific risk assessments.
VDU Assessments: Chapter 5 of Part 2 (Regulations 70 to 73) and the related Schedule 4 to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (S.I. No. 299 of 2007) relating to display screen equipment.
Employees covered by Chapter 5 of Part 2 of the General Application Regulations 2007
(i) Are entitled to have their workstation assessed in line with the requirements of Regulation 72
(ii) Must be trained in the use of the workstation and be given information about health and safety factors
(iii) Must also have periodic breaks or changes of routine, away from VDUs.
(iv) Must be informed by their employer that they are entitled to an appropriate eye and eyesight test (or may opt for either) before working with VDUs and at regular intervals
(v) Are entitled to an appropriate eye and eyesight test (or may opt for either) before working with VDUs and at regular intervals. If at any time working with VDUs an employee experiences visual difficulties he or she has a similar entitlement.
SOS can provide documented VDU assessment services to ensure compliance with current legislation, the analysis will also include for employee awareness and sharing of analysis findings.
Noise Assessments: Exposure to high levels of noise, can have a number of physiological and psychological effects on workers including stress, tinnitus and if exposed to high noise levels over long periods of time, permanent loss of hearing can occur. High noise levels can also interfere with communications in the workplace, leading to an increased risk of accidents. SOS can help client to comply with their duties under ‘ Chapter 1 of Part 5: Control Of Noise at Work, The Safety, Health and Welfare (General Application) Regulations 2007
